27-A (Costumes)

Directed by Emily Stern & Rachel Blackman

27-A is a queer anthological period drama set in the same San Francisco apartment that sees two couples contend with their relationships’ strengths, vulnerabilities, and buried desires in the 1920s and 1960s.

I worked with two amazing assistants to craft and curate a series of outfits for both the 1920s episode (a Halloween party), and the 1960s episode (polar opposite exes). Many of the 1960s pieces were true vintage, found at Cambridge Antiques in Boston, MA. I also found the most insane pair of original 60s-70s vegan boots by the Apple Cobbler (Mickey Mcgowan) for one of our leads, Patti. I washed and repaired them and they were ready to adorn the Penny Lane of 27-A.

For the Halloween episode I got to explode all over my living room floor with fabrics, ribbons, pom poms, tulle, the whole shabang. It was heinous. It was dastardly. It was perfect. I jerry rigged a jester hat out of an old velvet skirt, and a Little Bo Peep bonnet (20s style) out of some pants and a spool of lace. The clown hat was by far my proudest deed of hattery.
